Downtown Smithfield and the Ham & Yam Festival is preparing again for the annual invasion of one thousand rubber ducks. These yellow quackers are not your typical ducks, but racing ducks sporting pig masks with the worthy objective of raising money for the fight against cancer.
Sponsored by the Grifols Relay For Life Team, the race will take place along the banks of the Neuse River in the Smithfield Town Commons during the Ham & Yam Festival on Saturday, May 5th. The ducks will be “dropped” at the boat ramp at approximately 5:30 p.m. and the winner should paddle across the finish line behind the Neuse River Amphitheatre by 6:15 p.m. $500 will be awarded to the first place duck, $200 for the second, and $100 for the third.
Tickets on a chance for the winning duck are $5 and can be purchased from any Johnston County Relay For Life team member and or by visiting the Relay for Life booth at the Festival.
All proceeds from the sale of the ducks will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Johnston County.
